Super Eagles Midfielder Alex Iwobi has appealed to Nigerian fans to stick and support the national team despite the home defeat to Guinea Bissau on Friday at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Iwobi made the appeal while speaking during the post-match conference immediately after the game. According to the Everton midfielder “First and foremost, as the players and staff we know we have to react to the result, we are going to look at the game and analyze. All we can do it to improve and to all the fans, all I can is that they should stick by us and support us because we give 100% not just for ourselves but also for our nation. Anytime we come here, we are fine. We know there are a lot of people and we are privileged to wear the shirt. Next time we are going to do our best and make the country proud”
Guinea Bissau recorded a famous win against Nigeria after Mama Samba Balde scored in the 30min of the AFCON qualifier in what was their first ever victory over Nigeria and condemned Nigeria to her first defeat at the qualifier.
The victory took Guinea Bissau to the top of the group with 7points, one point ahead of Nigeria in the second spot.
