Chuba Akpom continued his fine form for Middlesbrough when he scored and assisted as Middlesbrough defeated Preston 4-0.
The former Arsenal player has now scored 24 goals for Boro in the Championship this season.
Akpom gave Boro the lead in the 23rd minute when he prodded the ball home after a link-up with Cameron Archer. He would have added the second in the 33rd minute but was denied by the woodwork.
Archer doubled Boro’s lead in the 52nd minute when he connected with a pass from Ryan Giles before slotting the ball home.
Akpom was the provider for the third goal when he squared the ball to the path of Archer who made no mistake to double his tally and increase Boro’s lead to 3.
Akpom was not done tormenting the Preston defence when he was responsible for the sending off of Bambo Diaby, two minutes before the end of normal regulation time.
With Preston down to 10 men, Middlesbrough ensured they added more salt to their wound as they added a fourth goal through Marcus Forss.
Akpom was awarded the best player in the Championship on Thursday for the consecutive time and he is leading the charge for Middlesbrough’s quest to return to the Premier League.
Michael Carrick’s men now sit 3rd on the Championship log with 67 points after 38 games.
