Ahead of the much-awaiting first-leg tie between Rivers United and Young African of Tanzania, the African soccer ruling body has appointed South Africa’s Abongile Tom as the centre referee.
The Pride of Rivers will host the first leg on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium after they finished second in Group A and the Tanzania side finished on top of their group.
Angola’s Ivanildo Sanchez was named as the first assistant and Abelmiro Negro as the 2nd assistant while Djindo Louis of Benin will work as the reserved referee.
Moroccans Hamza El Fariq and Adil Zourak will be in charge of the VAR as first and assistant officials respectively
