Paulo Souza left his position as coach of Poland in December 2021. Czeslaw Michniewicz took over for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Poland advanced to the Round of 16, where they were defeated 3-1 by eventual champions France.
Santos was seen on camera on Monday at the Warsaw airport. His contract with Portugal was terminated in December following their World Cup quarterfinal Defeat to Morocco,
There has been no official announcement. Polish Minister of Sport and Tourism Kamil Bortniczuk has congratulated Kulesza and the FA on the appointment.
“Santos is a coach with a very good CV (Greece and Portugal since 2010, and previously top Portuguese and Greek clubs), successes (European Championship), experience in working with great stars, led by Cristiano,” he tweeted on Monday.
Santos formerly served as the manager of the Greece national team. As well as stints with Porto, Sporting, and Benfica.
In March, Poland’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign begins. The team was placed in Group E with Moldova, the Faroe Islands, Czechia, and Albania.
With Cristiano Ronaldo serving as captain, Santos led Portugal to victory at Euro 2016 and in the 2018–19 Nations League. He has coached Greece for four years and has managed Porto, AEK Athens, Panathinaikos, Sporting, Benfica, and PAOK at the club level.
