Eder Militao was the villain as his own goal gave Barcelona a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of the semifinal of the Copa Del Rey at the Santiago Bernabeu. Militao became the second Madrid player to score an own goal this season.
Barcelona were without Robert Lewandowski, Ousmane Dembele and Pedri but they were made not to rue their absences due to Real Madrid’s lacklustre performance.
The home side couldn’t muster a goal on target which is the first time they have failed to do so since February 2022. The loss to Barcelona on Thursday night was also Madrid’s first home loss in 11 months.
Barcelona bossed possession but could not create much as they could not register more than two shots on target, which is understandable considering the key players they were missing in the attack.
While Xavi’s men head to the second leg with the advantage, Real Madrid’s form at Camp Nou is an encouraging sign. They have won their last 3 trips to Catalonia and are unbeaten in their last 5.
While fans await the second leg in the Copa Del Rey on the 5th of April, both teams will still have to face each other on the 19th of March in La Liga at the Spotify Camp Nou.
