The Interim Management Committee (IMC) has revealed their plans for the Nigeria Premier League champions who will be decided at the end of the Super 6 playoffs in a yet-to-be-announced venue. The official announcement of the prize money was made on Tuesday during the IMC Media Parley held in Lagos on Tuesday.
While speaking at the event, IMC Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye revealed the prize money for the eventual champions as one hundred million naira “At the end of this league season the winner will take home N100m, There are plans to increase the number of games on TV and we hope to be on additional TV stations soon.”
The chairman further said “Part of our aim is that the least-paid player in a couple of seasons in the Nigerian League will be N1m”
lMC Head of Operations Davidson Owumi who was also present at the event said “The present NPFL structure is not personally driven but built on a system. There is no player in the NPFL that is not insured today” while speaking on the venue of the Super 6 at the end of the regular season of the NPFL Abridged league, Owumi said, “No location for super six yet though a venue exists in their mind and that venue has no Premier League team.”
“However, we will like to see how the season progresses and commercial viability before announcing a venue. Abuja and Lagos are provisional venues in our minds.”
IMC Partner GTI represented by its Executive Director Nelson Ine also announced the immediate impact they’ve made with the IMC since the league started, according to him, the GNI has achieved Regular payment of Referees indemnity to enhance good officiating, Production, and Broadcast of
Star Matches weekly, Effective management of the IMC to bring order and discipline to the League, Competitive Balance amongst the Football Clubs, and Adequate publicity for the League.
He further highlighted what the company hopes to achieve in the future “We project in 4, 5 years there will be a change of owners using the system of substitution & elimination. Nobody will tell the state govts not to own clubs based on the template we’re running, we hope to bring a downward trend to the administrative and management conflict, poor referees officiating, and Insecurity at match venues
The IMC was inaugurated in December 2022 by the Sports Ministry to help revive the domestic game and bring it to its past glory
