Robert Lewandowski admitted his wish to play with Lionel Messi next season as he hopes the club legend makes a return.
The world cup winner left Spotify Camp Nou on a free transfer in 2020 due to financial issues which prevented his contract renewal at the last minute.
However, the Argentine has found it slightly difficult to settle at Paris Saint-Germain and with reports of the seven-time Ballon D’Or winner stalling on a new deal, the Barça hierarchy is poised to make a move.
Voicing his opinion on Messi’s future at the launch of the 18th book of Solidarity Stories of Sport, Lewandowski stated Catalonia is home to the club’s iconic number 10.
“Messi belongs to Barça and if he comes back, it will be something incredible,” the Pole said.
“We know your place is here in Barcelona.
“I don’t know what will happen, but I hope that next season we can play together.”
While the Catalan giants are finely placed to win the first LaLiga title since Messi’s departure, Lewandowski appeals for calm and patience.
He continued: “It’s still early days for LaLiga.
“We are taking steps and it is not easy. We have a lot of new players and a lot of injuries, like in the group stage of the Champions League or the last game against Madrid, so it’s been difficult.
“At Bayern, it has always been normal but Barça is in the process of becoming great again.
“We have to be patient and I’m sure next season will be better.”
Xavi’s Barça side sits 13 points clear at the summit of the standings, heading into the final stretch of the campaign.
