The Catalonia club was accused to have made a total payment of €7.3 million to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira who was the former vice president of the Referee’s committee between 2001 and 2018.
Barcelona has already been charged before and now UEFA has decided to take a deeper look into the case.
The official statement from the European football government reads: “Following Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have today been appointed to investigate a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework by FC Barcelona in connection with the so-called ‘Caso Negreira’.
“Further information regarding this matter will be made available in due course.”
Barcelona has already claimed that they have done nothing wrong or illegal and also claimed that they have never gotten any special treatment from Referees in the past.
