A new competition that will involve eight teams in Nigeria has been unveiled – Naija Super 8, is an off-season football competition launched by Flykite Productions on Wednesday in Lagos.
Chief Executive Officer, of Flykite Productions, Jenkins Alumona, said during the launch that the competition would rekindle affection for the game in the country.
The General Secretary of, the Nigeria Football Federation Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, who was one of the dignitaries present at the event described Naija Super 8 as a worthwhile and welcome initiative.
“This is a laudable project. We are convinced it aligns with the mission and vision of Nigerian football.
“This project is different, as it allows the fans to vote for their favourite clubs to play in the NAIJA Super 8.
Here are ten things to know about the new tournament
1️⃣ The competition will be in a group format (two groups).
2️⃣ Each team will get 3M naira per game and 9 million even if the team crashes out at the group stages.
3️⃣ MVP per game will get N250,000.
4️⃣ Runner up will get 9M and 3M for each game.
5️⃣Winner gets 25M.
6️⃣Fans will vote for their best teams across the Six geo-political zones, top two from each zone will tackle each other in a playoff at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo from June 1st to 3rd.
7️⃣ The six best teams will be joined by two seeded teams that would be revealed.
8️⃣ The Eight teams will play the main tournament at the mobolaji Johnson arena, Lagos from June 17 – 25
9️⃣ All matches will be live on Supersports, with world-class coverage.
