Bendel Insurance’s striker, Ebenezer Odeyemi, is optimistic that his club is fully prepared for the South-southern derby.
“As a player, my expectations shouldn’t be more than getting a good result because we’ve prepared and we go in with full confidence that we are going to get a positive result.”
As the NPFL is set to begin after a long break that lasted for over 150 days, football clubs and their players are getting prepared to challenge for the topflight title.
However, the league format for the season by the organizers, IMC, has been confirmed to be an abridged system that involves two groups with 10 teams respectively.
Meanwhile, the first game of the season which is also the only game slated for this week, Akwa United against newcomers Bendel Insurance will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday, 8th, January.
The game is also scheduled to be viewed on terrestrial TV.
Recall that, Insurance returned to the NPFL for the first time since 2019 when they were relegated in the abridged season having recorded a total of 28 points in 22 games.
But Odeyemi is full of hopes that the Edo-based club would prove critics wrong.
“We have our target and we trust God to achieve our target. Playing live matches is always interesting to express yourself fully and I feel so great the matches are going to be shown live.
I trust we are going to make history this season as a team.”
