Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Chairman Nkechi Obi, has stated that the Clubs that will participate in the NWFL next season have been increased to 16 clubs from the previous 14 clubs that participated last season.
Nkechi Obi stated this while speaking with pressmen in Akure during a visit to discuss the Goals and aspirations of the NWFL with The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Ondo State, Hon. Dele Ologunloluwa, and other Female football stakeholders in Ondo State.
“We restructured the former structure of the NWFL and now we will have 16 teams participating in the league next season.”She said
The NWFL Chairman also said that the championship which is the 2nd division of the league has also been increased to 20 clubs from the previous 12 clubs which means an addition of 8 more clubs.
Meanwhile, Nkechi Obi also highlighted the fact that the NWFL will be coming up with a program called CLASS TO PITCH program, in conjunction with the sports business institute with the aim for capacity development for clubs and Female coaches, between 18 and 35 years as well as a Referee program for interested ladies including Player development program.
Nkechi Obi in her speech also made it known that Media officers of clubs will be trained as part of the plan to improve the league’s capacity.
