The head coach of the Nigeria Premier Football League side Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Gbenga Ogunbote has re-emphasised the target of the club going into the second stanza of the league.
Oluyole Warrior has been blowing hot and cold since the commencement of the league and has to force Akwa United to a 2-2 draw in the final game of the first stanza.
While speaking on Fresh FM 105.9 on Thursday, the former Sunshine Stars coach admitted that the team played below par in the first round and further stated they looking to bring in 3 to 5 players to reinforce the team.
” In the first stanza of the league we’ve not done too brilliantly and we just make sure that we want to amend where necessary but the first stanza hasn’t been a brilliant one for the team.
Our preseason training and matches have nothing to do with our performance in the league, we have a quite number of players and we jungle them to put everybody in a competitive game, no players in the team played more than 20 games.
In the second stanza, it’s a situation where we have to appraise ourselves and from there we will agree that if we conceded 13 goals and scored 10 goals then we have an issue in sine department.
And in that department, we will bring one or two quality players to ensure that we tighten up.
Sikiru Alimi came and has some injury issues but he’s back with the team now.
We won’t sign too many players for the second stanza, all we need to do is to block the loopholes we noticed in the first stanza, we are talking to bring between 3 and 5 players.
The target set at the beginning has not changed and is to ensure that the team finished in an appreciable position and the second stanza is what we want to use”, he stated.
