The General Manager of Rivers United Okey Kpalukwu has heaped praises on the Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike for redeeming his pledge to the team.
The state governor on Friday paid each player of the club $20,000 for reaching the group stage of the confederation cup.
While speaking on the governor’s good gesture, he further narrated how the two teams were merged in 2015.
” We thank our amiable governor, what happened today is marvellous in our eyes and is a joyful thing for all of us.
We are not surprised because is the number supporter of Sports and this is the first time in the history of Rivers State and Nigeria.
When you look back in 2015, then the arrears owned the two teams Dolphins and Sharks amounting to N200 million plus that 8 months’ salaries and some sign-on fees that we are not paid.
When he ( Wike) came into office he cleared all the debits and decided that instead of throwing money at the two teams merged the teams and turned them into Rivers United and he has been supporting us since then”, he told the club media.
