The Warriors opened their title defence account on an incredible note, earning a 123-109 win over the visiting Lakers.
Before tipoff, Golden State’s players received their championship rings and raised the fourth banner of the Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Steve Kerr era to the rafters.
After a rather ugly start on both sides, the Warriors took over, outscoring the Lakers 32-19 in the third quarter to take full command and not look back, cruising to a 14-point victory. Curry led the way with 33 points (on 10 of 22 shooting), Andrew Wiggins finished with 20 points, and Klay Thompson added 19 points in 18 minutes.
For the Lakers, who shot 10 of 40 from 3-point range on the night, LeBron James led the way with 31 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists, Anthony Davis added 27 points on 10 of 22 shooting, and Russell Westbrook scored 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting. Outside of that trio, the Lakers scored 32 points on 11-of-34 shooting.
