Inter Milan defeated local rivals AC Milan 2-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final played at the San Siro stadium On Wednesday evening.
Edin Dzeko gave Inter Milan the lead as early as the 8th minute when he fired a precise shot past Mike Maignan from former AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu’s cross. The Bosnian has now become the second-oldest player to score in a knockout game in the UEFA Champions League.
The Nerazzuri got their second goal in the 11th minute from the boot of Henrikh Mkhitaryan who was assisted by Federico Dimarco.
Inter Milan thought they had gotten the chance to triple their lead in the 31st minute but when the centre referee, Jesus Gil Manzano pointed to the spot after a foul from Simon Kjaer but his decision was overturned by the VAR.
Inter Milan took the two-goal advantage into halftime as the home side couldn’t muster any response.
AC Milan starts the second half brightly as Brahim Diaz tricks his way to way to the edge of the box before firing a shot which went wide of the left post.
However, they couldn’t sustain the momentum and Inter Milan ran away with the victory.
The Rossonneri will have to overturn the two-goal deficit next week Tuesday to stand a chance of getting to the final for the first time in 16 years while Inter Milan just need a draw to advance to the final
