Victor Osimhen is the most prolific African striker in Europe at the moment. He has scored 25 goals in all competitions, which is more than that of Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez, Sadio, and other forwards of African descent in Europe.
He is the leading marksman in Serie A with 21 goals, 6 more than his nearest challenger, Lautaro Martinez. Having netted a brace in Napoli’s 4-0 over Torino, he equaled Samuel Eto’s record for most goals scored by an African in Serie A, which the Cameroonian set in the 2010-2011 season in the colors of Inter.
Don’t forget that he had earlier beaten the record for most goals scored by a Nigerian in the Italian topflight, what a ground-breaking season the Super Eagles forward is having.
With more than 11 league games to be played, Osimhen has another in his sights, the most goals scored by an African in Serie A which is currently being held by former Balon d’Or winner, George Weah.
The Liberian scored 46 goals in 114 games for Seria A while playing for AC Milan between 1995 and 2000.
Osimhen has 45 goals in 74 appearances for Napoli so far, barring any season-ending injury, it is safe to say that he would have become the African highest scorer of all time in the Serie A.
Not only would he break Weah’s record, but he will also have guided Napoli to their first league triumph in 33 years. There is no doubt that Osimhen will have his etched in the sands of time as one the best Africans to have played in the Serie A if not the best.
