Nigeria-born German International and Borussia Dortmund player, Karim Adeyemi disclosed yesterday that he would have played for Nigeria if the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) invitation had come earlier.
Fielding questions from the kids who participated in his Meet and Greet Ibadan Soccer kids program at Olubadan Stadium, Adeyemi counseled the kid footballers on the need to focus on their education.
The Ibadan- born soocer star, explained further that being in Germany gave him the opportunity of playing for the European nation at a young age.
Speaking on how the kids could upgrade their game, the Borussia Dortmund player who nurses an injury urged the players, especially the wingers to become unstoppable and this could only come from a renewed mindset.
He however stated that he could still wear Nigeria’s colors in the future.
Mogaji Rotimi Alli, the Ibadan Football Council (IFC) boss urged the kids to try and strike a balance between their studies and football.
Libero as fondly called by admirers recalled that despite his passion for football, he had to set it aside to pursue his Law program. He advised that the kids should put in their best and seize the opportunity provided by the Karim Adeyemi Foundation as such opportunities seldom present itself.
Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, the State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports charged the children to believe in themselves and their abilities to succeed.
Hon Adegoke ,who spoke on behalf of the State Governor added that the kids possessed the potentials and talents to excel and become football greats in the future.
Christian Dierck, one of the German Coaches who had earlier spoken with the kids stressed the importance of being good and obedient children. He noted that the kid footballers should listen to their teachers , do their homework and pay much attention to their studies and be disciplined.
The German football coach reiterated the need for the kids to remember his words whenever they wore the jerseys of Borussia Dortmund which were donated to them.
The entourage thereafter took photographs and left for Oje area of guy Ibadan to watch street soccer.
