The technical director of the Athletes Federation of Nigeria ( AFN) Samuel Onikeku has confirmed that some athletes who failed to compete at the ongoing African Senior Athletica Championship in Cameroon will be Sanctions if they are guilty.
Some Nigerian athletes refused to compete in the African Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon, and the Federation frowned at the development.
Onikeku while speaking on a YouTube interview with Making of Champ, stated the process is on and also said the athletes will be given a free hearing.
” We need to continue to educate our athletes. It does not necessarily mean that you are a top athlete, you must know the rules.
Just as a category A country, we will continue to have an education session with our athletes when we get to camp, we will let them know why some decisions were made.
” There are processes and it has started and somebody who follows the process, and the result will be out in the next 48-72 hours, so everyone should be patient and athletes will also be given a free hearing”, he said.
