Lisandro Martinez, a defender from Ajax, has been signed by Manchester United for £56.7 million and a five-year deal.
For the Argentina international, United has paid a fixed €57.37 million (£48.3 million), plus €10 million (£8.4 million) in add-ons that were negotiated between the two clubs. Martinez will reunite at Old Trafford with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who signed him for the team in 2019.
The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract in Manchester, with an additional 12-month extension option that would keep him working there into the age of thirty.
Martinez remarked, “It’s an honor to join this fantastic football team. “Now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even more because I’ve worked so hard to get to this point.
“I’ve had the good fortune to play for winning clubs throughout my career, and I hope to do the same at Manchester United. To get there will take a lot of work, but I am confident that we can accomplish it with the help of my new teammates and this manager and coaching staff.
“I want to express my gratitude to Ajax and its supporters for all of their help. I had a fantastic experience there, but I believe the time is now to put myself to the test in a different setting. I’m in the ideal club right now to do that.
Martinez and fellow newcomer Christian Eriksen, who completed a free move earlier this month after his Brentford contract expired, arrived at United’s Carrington training facility on Tuesday.
