Super Falcons Captain Onome Ebi has Responded to several reports that have trailed her inclusion in the Super Falcons squad ahead of the Olympics in Paris.
The veteran player is expected to be listed among the four alternate players who could be drafted in the event of injury to any of the 18 players on the main squad, a decision that has led to mixed reactions from football fans
“I am on my own and people are trying to rubbish the name I have suffered for over the years after all my dedication to the country. I don’t know why people want to pull you down out of envy. If the coach decided to include me in the squad, there is nothing wrong with that. Even Brazil included Marta in their Olympics squad to honor her. I don’t see why my inclusion should upset people just because the coach or the NFF decided to honor me at the Summer Olympics before my retirement. I feel so sad.” she said
It will be recalled that Onome Ebi became the first African player to feature at six World Cups last year
The nine-time African Champion secured their 2024 Olympic ticket for the first time in 16 years following their victory against South Africa, which has placed them in a group with Spain, Brazil, and Japan.
