Nigeria yesterday grabbed one more gold medal to finish third at the 2024 African Senior Athletics championships in Douala, Cameroon.
At the conclusion of the events at the Japoma Stadium, Douala yesterday, Nigeria secured five gold, four silver and four bronze medals, with most of the medals coming from the female athletes who won four gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
Their male counterparts got two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
At the 2022 edition in Mauritius, Nigeria saved its best for the last day of the competition, winning four medals across both track and field events. So I’m Douala yesterday, the women’s 4*400m relay grabbed gold medal in 3.27.31 seconds. Their male counterparts finished fourth in 3.02.93 seconds.
Among athletes who defended their titles in Douala are Chukwuebuka Enekwachi who won the men’s shot put event. He won in Asaba 2018 and retained it in Mauritius 2022.
