Manager of the Dutch National team Louis Van Gaal has said the introduction of the Barcelona forward Memphis Depay ensured their victory over the Teranga Lions of Senegal.
After a scoreless first half in which the African champions dominated the game, the Orange Boys scored 2 late goals to earn a maximum in the game.
While reacting to the result during the post-match conference, Van Gaal said the Senegalese have much of the ball but he never thought they could lose the game.
“We didn’t play well. I’m talking about possession of the ball, there was a lot of loss of balls.
So we gave Senegal the chance to score a goal. If we were more compact, they had no chance.
I never felt like we could lose. After Memphis (Depay) entered, I expected us to win, to be honest,” Van Gaal said.
