Nigeria’s Super Eagle coach Jose Peseiro has explained the reasons for the omission of the Belgium-based duo of Gift Orban and Victor Boniface.
The two Nigerian International made the biggest headlines in the just-concluded Jupiler League scoring double-digit goals both in the league and continental games.
Ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, Peseiro released the list of 23 players and the biggest surprise was the omission of Orban and Boniface.
The Portuguese gaffer revealed that he can only invite 19 foreign-based players but assured that they will get their opportunity in future.
“I have visited Orban and Boniface in Belgium but I can only invite 19 foreign players.
I wish I could have more so I can call them but I also have to consider the situation of the NFF.
There will be time for them and the rest of the team here can also do well.
“For Akpom, he can’t be here due to some issues with bureaucracy,” Peseiro explained.
