President Confederation of African Football Patrice Motsepe has opened up the reason they are reopening the bidding process for the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
Guinea was initially awarded the hosting right of the competition during the tenure of Issa Hayatou as the president of CAF when the tournament was still a 16-team.
The participating teams were increased to 24 in 2019 which makes it difficult for some countries including Guinea to be able to stage the competition.
CAF held its general assembly in July and they were left unsatisfied with the level of readiness of the country.
Motsepe and general secretary Veron Omba Mosengo visited Conakry the capital of Guinea to meet with the country’s head of state Mamadi Doumbya where the final decision was taken about the competition.
” We are not ready as of yet in Guinea… and we should reopen the process” of allowing prospective host countries to bid.
“I had insisted that that message should not go public – I should come personally here.
CAF is now open to receive new bids because where we are now, the infrastructure and the facilities are not appropriate or ready,” he added.
