Head coach of the Nigerian national team Jose Paseiro has described the role of the captain of the team Ahmed Musa as more than just a player for the team.
The Portuguese gaffer, while speaking at the press conference ahead of the African Cup of Nations final on Sunday said Musa is like an assistant to him.
“Ahmed Musa is special and important to the team. He is my assistant, he advises me, he gives me the necessary support. He is committed in his role and he can play. We shall wait and see tomorrow, but we want to win the AFCON for Musa to lift the trophy.”
Musa, a member of the Nigerian squad that won the AFCON title in 2013 is yet to play a single minute in all the six matches played by the team en route to the final is on the verge of making history alongside Kenneth Omeruo as only the two Nigerian players to win the AFCON title twice if Nigeria wins the tournament.
Nigeria will face the host nation Cite d’ivoire at the 60,000-capacity Olympic Stadium, Ebimpe on Sunday.
