Despite crashing out of the competition in the quarter-final, Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have been awarded the fair play award by the Confederation of African Football,
The Young Stallions of Burkina Faso defeated the Golden Eaglets 2-1 in the quarter-final and ended their hope of reaching the FIFA World Cup later in the year.
Nigeria was given the merit of winning the Fair Play team trophy of the group stage due to their exemplary behaviour on and off the pitch during their three group matches.
Housed in Group B along with Morocco, South Africa and Zambia, Nigeria finished 2nd, the Golden Eaglets have recorded two wins and one loss.
