NIGERIAN businessman Aliko Dangote is holding negotiations to buy over French club Valenciennes, according to reports.
French media is reporting that Aliko Dangote is nearing a deal to purchase the Ligue 2 team for €10m, he will take over the 60% stake of the Eddy Zdziech family. The billionaire, reputed as the richest man in Africa, is also discussing with the club with a view to taking 100 percent ownership
Valenciennes were founded in 1913 and play their home matches at the 25,000-capacity Stade du Haunat, which was opened in 2011 and hosted games during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
They are currently 16th in the 20-team league and struggling to stay up after losing their last three matches.
Dangote has made moves in the past to buy a club in Europe, attempting twice in 2016 and 2020 to purchase stakes in Arsenal, the club he supports.
