Arsenal open contract talks with defender William Saliba after his impressive start to the season

Arsenal has opened talks of a new contract with William Saliba,on the back of a standout season in France with Marseille, the 21-year-old has made an equally impressive start to life in England, establishing a solid defensive partnership alongside Gabriel Magalhaes and has already weighed in with two goals – including a stunner against Bournemouth.

Widely praised for his performance in the North London Derby win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, Arsenal has further incentive to secure Saliba’s long-term future by agreeing on terms on a new contract as the counter-argument is the club risk losing him for a cut-price fee next summer – or worst yet for free in 2024.

Arsenal signed William Saliba for 30 million pounds in the summer of 2019, and he was sent on loan to St. Etienne and OGC Nice in the Ligue un. After a season at Nice, he joined Olympique Marseille on loan, where he impressed. William Saliba is worth 80 million pounds now and is regarded as untouchable by the Arsenal board.
