Rivers United began their Continental assignment in a blistering form after getting past Liberian club, Watanga, 3-0 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday evening for their CAF Champions League preliminary stage.
The NPFL defending champions opened their scoring as early as in the eighth minute from former Rangers’ player, Agu Kenechukwu. Afterwards, the duo of Ebube Duru and Paul Acquah got on the scoresheet for Rivers in the 18th and 45th minute respectively.As it stands, Rivers United will travel to Moronvia with a three-goal advantage into the reverse fixture next Sunday.
Elsewhere at Franceville, Onyebuchi Ifeanyi and Mohammed Zulkilfulu helped Plateau United hold Gabonese hosts Stade Mandji to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
The Peace Boys will be playing their reverse fixture at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Sunday, 18th September.
