Christopher Vivell is set to become the new technical director at Chelsea, ending Todd Boehly’s search after leaving RB Leipzig.
The 35-year-old’s appointment is expected to be the final one following the American’s £4 billion takeover at Stamford Bridge and sees him come in as a replacement for the role which was vacated by exits of Marino Granovskaia and Petr Cech. Vivell left Leipzig on Friday, so a move to West London appears imminent.
It ends the long search for a new sporting director, with Boehly undertaking the role during the summer transfer market. The American had made pursuits for former Liverpool director Michael Edwards and Red Bull Salzburg chief Christoph Freund but now appears to have settled on the German.
Boehly decided to sack Thomas Tuchel last month, replacing him with Graham Potter, following a defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League. Based on previous interviews, this is not a move Vivell would have taken lightly.
