PSV Eindhoven secures UEFA Champions League group stage spot after a commanding 5-1 victory against Rangers in the play-off’s second leg, prevailing 7-3 on aggregate. Ismael Saibari’s header, expertly set up by Joey Veerman, gave PSV a 3-2 aggregate lead at halftime.
Saibari added a second early in the second half, sealing a 4-2 aggregate advantage. Captain James Tavernier managed to slot in a lifeline for Rangers after Sam Lammers’ assist, but PSV surged forward, with Luuk de Jong’s header extending the lead to 3-1 on the night and 5-3 on aggregate.
Veerman’s close-range finish marked PSV’s fourth, while a Goldson-Butland mix-up resulted in a calamitous own goal for PSV’s fifth.
Cyril Dessers, following a subpar performance, was replaced in the 61st minute. The loss means Rangers miss the UCL group stage for the first time since 2010, settling for Europa League play, while PSV revels in their return to Europe’s elite.
