Nigeria senior men’s basketball team D’tigers have suffered a defeat in its opening game at the 2025 Afrobasket championship qualifier going on in Monastir, Tunisia
With little or no preparation for the Nigerian squad who had just nine players available for the game, Nigeria lost by 82-89 to Libya after overtime in Libya’s return to the game for the first time since 2009.
On Wednesday, D’Tigers announced their withdrawal from the Afrobasket qualifiers, citing a “lack of funds from the government”.
However, a few hours after the announcement, John Enoh, minister of sports, intervened on the issue and arrangements were made to ensure Nigeria’s participation.
The Nigeria team will be hoping to bounce back from the disappointment when they face Uganda on Saturday in the second match.
