Former Shooting Stars forward Okiki Afolabi was the hero late on Wednesday in the Iraq premier league as he led his club Newroz to victory in a fiercely contested match.
Afolabi who has also played for Sunshine Stars of Akure in the past moved to Iraq after the expiration of his contract with the Ethiopian premier league in Enderta ’70.
Newroz played host to Naft Missan and the first half ended in a goalless draw despite the end-to-end game.
Afolabi rose to the occasion by netting the opening goal in the 54th minute before completing his brace in the 69th minute, the away side was able to halve the scoreline through Younis as the game ended 2-1 in favour of Newroz.
With this result, Newroz moved up to 12th place with 38 points.
