A former coach of the Nigeria senior women’s national team Super Falcons has died.
The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning Super Falcons head coach passed away today in Benin City, in his native Edo State at the age of 81.
Izilein, who also coached the U-17 national team the Golden Eaglets, died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital after a brief illness today, his family has confirmed.
The outspoken Izilein led the Super Falcons to the WAFCON title in South Africa in 2004 and for years cried out for his entitlements to be paid.
As recently as last year, Izilein was still appealing to the Nigeria Football Federation to pay him his owed allowances and bonuses running into about $12,000.
