Dutchman Nyck De Vries has signed his maiden contract in F1 with Italian constructor AlphaTauri for the 2023 season.
The 2019 Formula 2 champion will race alongside Japanese driver, Yuki Tsunoda who earlier extended his contract with AlphaTauri. Nyck De Vries who has had practice session with Mercedes, Aston Martin and Williams this year will not be a stranger with the current drivers on the grid.
His recent milestone was when he sat in the car to replace Williams’ driver, Alex Albon who was ill for the Italian Grand Prix and he scored valuable points for the team finishing 9th in the race ahead of Nicholas Latifi.
De Vries was quoted saying: “I’m extremely excited to be joining Scuderia AlphaTauri for 2023 and I want to thank both Red Bull and the team for giving me the opportunity to drive in F1. After Formula 2, I took a slightly different path with motorsport, but F1 has always been my dream and I’m grateful to be able to fulfil it.
I’ve had a lot of chances to experience the 2022 car this year and I think that has put me in a great position for the upcoming season, I hope this has helped to prepare me for what is to come.”
The Dutchman’s signing comes as a result of the move by Pierre Gasly to Alpine earlier today.
AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost also expressed delight with the arrival of De Vries and hopes that his meteoric rise in motorsports will continue with them.
