Argentine teenager Alejandro Garnacho scored the 93rd winner to give Manchester United all 3 points against a resilient Fulham at the Craven Cottage.
The Red Devils took the lead in the 14th minute when Danish midfield Christian Eriksen latched on a ball in the six-yard box after the combination of slick passing from the midfield.
Manchester United dictated the pace of the game in the first half but the Cottagers had moments they rattled United. Their pressure eventually paid off when former Red Devil Daniel James scored against his former club to tie the game 1-1 in the 61st minute.
Erik Ten Hag happened to replace Anthony Martial with Alejandro Garnacho in the 72nd minute and it turned out to be a masterstroke when the teenager was able to slot the ball beyond the reach of a helpless Bernd Leno deep into injury time.
The victory sees Manchester United consolidate their 5th place standing on the Premier League table.
With the final round of the Premier League played before the FIFA World Cup starts next week Sunday, clubs wanted to end on a high before a frenetic restart on Boxing Day.
