Portugal earned a commanding 4-0 victory over the super eagles of Nigeria in their last tune-up match before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The first encounter between both sides at the senior level was an embarrassing experience for the Super Eagles.
Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for the hosts in the 8th minute, he then extended Portugal’s lead from the penalty spot after Bright Osayi-Samuel was penalized for handball.
The first half ended 2-0 in favor of the hosts.
The Super Eagles slightly improved in the second half, starting with purpose in other to get something out of the game.
Samuel Chukwueze replaced Ademola Lookman, while Frank Onyeka took the place of Wilfred Ndidi.
Super Eagles were presented with another chance to score from the penalty spot but Substitute Emmanuel Dennis missed from the spot.
The Watford striker refused to allow William Troost-Ekong to play the spot kick, and also refused to release the ball for Samuel Chukwueze.
Portugal scored their third goal through Goncalo Ramos who was making his debut for the Portuguese national team.
Joao Mario completed the victory for Portugal with the fourth goal to make it 4-0.
The Super Eagles have now lost all their four friendly matches under Jose Peseiro against Mexico, Ecuador, Algeria, and now Portugal.
