Formula 1 returns to the Suzuka Circuit for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a rather disappointing weekend for Redbull’s Max Verstappen during the Singapore GP, Max could finally land his second drivers’ championship by winning the race and clinching the the fastest lap which is an extra point. He can be be crowned champion if his closest challenger Monégasque, Charles Leclerc finishes below second and Max comes first.
Redbull will hope that the error that cost Max the pole in Singapore will not happen because they are in control of the situation. Redbull will also want to have Sergio Pérez on the front row of the grid due to his impressive drive which saw him win his second race this season in Singapore. Redbull have previously maintained Verstappen is the main third and Sergio Pérez has proven over time that he can be a good cover for the Dutchman.
If Max Verstappen wins the drivers’ championship in Suzuka, he will be the third driver to win the championship after Michael Schumacher in 2001 & 2004 and Sebastian Vettel in 2011.
With light rain being expected on raceday, a recipe for excitement will be anticipated from the bold calls coming from various teams.
