Paris Saint-German lost the first leg of the Uefa Champions League’s round of 16 to Bayern Munich by 1-0. Former PSG player, Kingsley Coman was the one responsible for the fall of Christophe Galtier’s men at the Parc Des Princes.
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbapppe were doubtful for the game but Messi was fit enough to start the game while Mbappe watched from the bench as his colleagues struggled.
The Parisians struggled without the French man as they couldn’t muster a shot on target throughout the first half. While there were glimpses, it was obvious that Mbappe’s absence was being badly felt by the host.
Neymar was awful yet again in a big game and if not for the lack of quality options, he should have been substituted by Galtier.
Unlike his former Barcelona teammate, Messi was the only live wire in the PSG’s team as he was always ready to make things happen. It was however obvious that the World cup winner needed help.
Messi finally got help in the 57th minute when Mbappe was introduced. Upon his introduction, PSG got more pace in attack and looked purposeful in transition.
It was no surprise that PSG’s only goal which was chalked off for offside was scored by Mbappe. Bayern Munich’s centre-back, Dayout Upamecano must be thankful that Mbappe was only on the pitch for a few minutes.
The French Forward possesses the pace, directness and decisiveness that no other player is in front of goal. It’s no surprise that he has been PSG’s top scorer for the past two seasons.
If PSG are to overturn the one-goal deficit, they need a fully fit Mbappe because he is their most dangerous forward and player. He showed vulnerability in Bayern Munich’s defeat and it is a ray of hope for Christophe Galtier and the rest of the coaching crew ahead of the second leg at the Allianz Arena on the 8th of March.
