The Italian Serie A side Napoli has confirmed they will sue the toy store for an unlicensed doll that bears a resemblance to Nigeria’s Super Eagles Victor Osimhen.
The doll went viral on social media because it has several rather obvious elements that link it to the Nigeria international.
This includes a protective mask with the 9 on it, a light blue jersey and a blond tuft of curly hair.
Called ‘Cicciobello Bomber’ essentially translating as ‘cute and cuddly striker’ – it was released by Giochi Preziosi, the company owned by former Genoa patron Enrico Preziosi.
Napoli released a statement this evening confirming that the doll is not in any way authorised by the club or Osimhen and is therefore breaching his image rights.
“We’re denying any report on the Italian media about releasing kids’ toy ‘Cicciobello Bomber’ inspired by Victor Osimhen in Napoli shirt.
That product was not authorized by the club — we will settle this issue in court”, the statement said.
