At the restart, Hungary forced Gianluigi Donnarumma into a triple save before they concede the second goal from Federico Dimarco in the 52nd minute. Hungary had chances but they failed to convert these chances.
The result in Budapest saw Italy end as group winners with 11 points and second-place Hungary with 10 points.
Italy have now qualified from the group.
