Record signing and star striker Alexander Isak has been ruled out through injury until after next month’s World Cup in Qatar.
The Swedish striker, who joined Real Sociedad in the summer for an eye-watering £63m, injured himself during a recent training session, and it has now been confirmed that the 23-year-old is set for a spell on the sidelines.
It was expected that Isak would return this week, with Newcastle travelling to Manchester United arrived on Sunday before hosting Everton on Wednesday and a trip to Spurs next weekend.
The news is a massive blow for Howe and the player, who has only featured three times since he arrived from Real Sociedad in August. He scored on his debut at Liverpool but felt a problem in his thigh while training with Sweden during September’s international break.
