Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday September 10, the Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, CP Olatoye Durosinmi has pledged the full support of the command for the successful hosting of the match.
The Police Commissioner stated this when he received the members of the Akwa Ibom State Football Normalization Committee who were in his office to notify him officially of the upcoming match.
CP Durosinmi said he was not surprised that the Godswill Akpabio International, Uyo was selected to host the match following the high maintenance culture of the state government as well as Akwa Ibom which he described as the most peaceful state in Nigeria.
He said the police remains committed to protecting lives and property, assuring that the command will deploy the necessary manpower to ensure a hitch-free outing and to maintain peace and order, before, during and after the match.
The Football Normalization Committee led by the Chairman, Otuekong Bonny Nyong in separate meetings also secured the commitment of the Department of State Services – DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps – NSCDC and Federal Road Safety Corps – FRSC for the peaceful hosting of the match.
Nigeria has already booked their place for the football fiesta in Cote D’Ivoire next January with 12 points in Group A of the qualification series, while their Central African opponents rock the bottom of the table with just one point from five matches.
