Former NPFL Champions Rivers United has recorded their first win of the new season after recording a 2-0 win over Remo Stars in Port Harcourt in a rescheduled match day 1 fixture.
Former Remo Stars striker Andy Okpe’s late strike in the second half and a 14th-minute penalty by Alex Oyowah were enough for the “Pride of Rivers” to secure their first win of the season and condemned the “Sky Blues” to their first defeat as well.
Coach Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars made just one change to the starting line-up that defeated Rangers Int’l with Qudus Akanni replacing Haruna Hadi.
The game was supposed to be played on the opening day of the season but had to be postponed due to the continental engagement of Rivers United in the CAF Confederations Cup.
