The Government of Ogun State has rewarded athletes, coaches and officials who won laurels at the just concluded 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State.
We hear that each gold medalist will smile to the bank with a million naira while silver medalist will get half a million naira and 250,000 naira is for bronze medal winner.
The coaches and officials were not left out in the naira spray by Dapo Abiodun on behalf of the State Government.
This cash reward was made known to the athletes by the State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday during a reception for Team Ogun in Abeokuta, the State capital.
The State won 15 gold, 18 silver and 37 bronze medals at the Festival which ended on Saturday.
As host of the next of the National Sports Festival, Ogun State Governor said preparation has began all ready.
Alll athletes from Ogun State will be camped for a year.
Besides camping the athletes for a year, the State Government says, it will provide world class facilities for use at the forthcoming Festival in Abeokuta.
“Am determined to make the 2024 National Sports Festival the best ever witnessed in the history of the event.” The governor said.
In order to make the 2024 Festival a huge success, the State Governor Dapo Abiodun promised to lunch sports trust fund soon that will help generate the much needed cash for the competition.
The Chairman of Ogun State Scrabble Association (OSSA), Adekoyejo Adegbesan who was very excited with the reception accorded the athletes and their coaches as well as officials said it’s the start of glad tidings for sports in the State.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun is already matching words with action in his promise of Ogun State hosting the best sports festival ever. This will drive more talents our way.” Adegbesan said.
Adegbesan the newly elected President of Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), stress that they are already keying in on the the plan, program and vision of the Governor.
“For us at the Ogun State Scrabble Association, work for the Sports Festival 2024 has already commenced. We are now updating our database of athletes and looking at grooming them into champions when the Sports Festival comes around again.” Adegbesan stated.
Scrabble Team Ogun won two gold, a silver and a bronze medal at the Festival, this the man, driving the new look Ogun State Scrabble Association says is a spring board to leap higher.
“We finished 3rd on the Scrabble medal table in Delta but we will win all the Gold medals available in Scrabble in 2024 from the preparations we are already making. Our Governor has shown good faith and it is important we replicate same by posting good results in all our endeavours for the State.” The Scrabble Sheikh concluded.
