As six Nigeria Women Football League premiership giants begin quest for the 2023/24 Super six title contention on Saturday May 18th, 2024 at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagua Bayelsa State, Edo Queens who were unique in their performances during the regular season, have continued to stay positive in pursuit of the prestigious League title. The potential champions are expected to storm the Oil rich State on Thursday for the NWFL Super six supremacy war of the ladies.
Edo Queens who came 2nd behind Rivers Angels in Group B of the abridged league with 23 points edged out FC Robo, Delta Queens, Remo Stars Ladies, Sunshine Queens and Ekiti Queens in the race to Super six. As the competition kickoff this week Saturday, a total of five matches will be played by each team in a round robin format.At the end the team with the highest points will automatically be the crown champions, and also be representing Nigeria at the continental scene.
The teams in contention the trophy are the host State Bayelsa Queens FC, of Yenagua, Confluence Queens FC of Kogi, Edo Queens FC of Benin, Heartland Queens FC of Owerri, Rivers Angels FC of Port Harcourt and Nasarawa Amazons FC of Lafia.
Having been part of the six teams that will showcase raw talents in the 2023/24 edition of the Super six fiesta, it is expedient to say that Edo Queens ladies are physically, morally, emotionally and psychologically ready the big showdown.
Edo Queens who have gone into closed camping for the past weeks have been highly motivated by the State government to excel at the competition. Positive reports from their camp suggest that the Ancient City ladies are in the right frame of mind for the fierce battle in Bayelsa State.
It is also significant to note that Edo Queens are not under pressure, we lost it in the past three editions but today the situation has changed completely in the 2023/24 Super six campaign, Edo Queens will deliver as promised.
Assistant captain of the team, Efe Osakpolor, said: “On behalf of my teammates I want to say that we are ready, we are focused, we are determined and we are resilient. We are not going there for jamboree, we are going to Bayelsa for a do or die battle. I also want to use this opportunity to thank the State government and the sports loving good people of Edo State for their massive support, the Executive Governor His Excellency Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, his wife Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the Sports Commission Chairman Yussuf Alli (Olympian), for their massive supports, it is our turn to reciprocate, and the only way to say thank you to them is for us to win trophies and by His grace we shall emerge victorious at the end.”
