As the 2023 National Youth Games kicks start in Asaba, 138 contingents (including athletes, coaches, and accompanying officials) from Ekiti State arrived the capital city of Delta State Thursday 21st, September, 2023.
General Manager of Ekiti Sports Commission, Mr Adekunle Adeyemi said Team Ekiti will participate in 18 sports with a total number of 100 athletes at the 7th National Youth Games
The General Manager implored the athletes to be of best behaviour at the event as the ambassadors of Ekiti State.
While affirming that the athletes and their officials were in high spirits to make the state proud at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Mr Adeyemi encouraged the athletes to galvanize the strength and training to win as many medals as possible.
The Sports Commission boss thanked the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the prompt release of funds for the games and his support for sports generally in Ekiti State.
The 18 sports that Ekiti will compete for kuarels are: athletics, badminton, weightlighting, boxing, chess, golf, gymnastics, judo, karate, para+athletics, scrabble, table tennis, tennis, Ayo olopon, hockey, handball, cricket and baseball .
Team Ekiti Media Officer, Àlàbí Tolúlọpẹ́ Michael reports that the screening of athletes will take place Friday 22nd, while opening ceremony will hold on Saturday 23rd and events start same day.
The National Youth Festival will end on the 30th of September, 2023.
