The General Secretary of the World Soccer ruling body ( FIFA) has announced her official departure from office.
The Senegalese joined FIFA 7 years ago and she has contributed immensely to the development of the game across the globe.
“Joining FIFA was the best decision I have made in my life. I am happy to have led such a diverse team. First of all, I would like to thank Gianni Infantino for giving me this incredible opportunity.
He gave me his trust and provided tremendous support while always showing great understanding.
It’s great to have been able to work alongside someone who has truly transformed FIFA.
Today, our body is better directed, more open, more reliable, and more transparent. I will leave FIFA with great pride and a sense of accomplishment.
“I had planned to announce this news to the members of the FIFA Council first, next week, but my position has been the subject of a lot of speculation in recent months.
Today, I am fully focused on the preparations and the delivery of the Women’s World Cup, which will start soon in Australia and New Zealand”, she stated.
