The hope of Nigeria’s Super Falcons getting a favourable result in Douala was dashed on Friday evening as they were held to a goalless draw by the Indomitable Lioness.
The game was played under a floodlight witnessed end-to-end game from both sides with the host trying to be more physical.
The Nigerian attack led by US-based Asisat Oshoala looks so blunt and quiet and allows the backline of the host to play from behind.
Cameroon almost took the lead towards the end of the first stanza but the brilliance of goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie rescued the situation.
The second half started with the Falcons dictating the game and they thought they’d scored midway into the second half through Esther but the referee ruled it out for offside.
Bay FC striker Asisat Oshoala missed the biggest opportunity of the game in the 67th minute but she fluffed the opportunity.
Spain-based Babajide Rinsola was introduced for Oshoala and the Nigeria attack came to life and pegged back the Cameroonian defenders.
All the efforts of both sides to nick the game towards the tail end proved abortive as it ended a goalless draw.
The second leg will take place in Nigeria on Monday at the main bowl of the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abuja
