Noni Madueke will be Chelsea’s 5th signing of this transfer window when all the necessary details are settled. His signing would mean Chelsea would have signed 12 players in the last 6 months.
Therefore, there must be a massive clearout at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea to keep the squad balanced, the wage bill healthy and sanctions for breaching the Financial Fair Play Rules (if they still exist).
Below are 7 players I feel Chelsea must let go now or in the summer
1. Jorginho
The 31-year-old Italian midfielder is into the last year of his contract. His performance has nosedived since Chelsea won the Uefa Champions League in 2021 and I believe his time at the club is up.
Any thought or attempt to renew Jorginho’s contract should be stopped now because he is done playing at the highest level.
2. N’golo Kante
He remains one of the best players at the club but I believe that the French man should be let go due to financial reasons.
Just like Jorginho, he is in the final year of his contract. He is already one of the highest earners at the club and any attempt to renew his contract might make him the highest earner at the club.
He is 31 and increasing his wages for him to sign a new contract would be economically unwise with his injury record this seson, it is time to say Bye to the French man.
3. Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku rejoined Chelsea at the start of the 2021/2O22 season but only if both parties had known, they would have stayed on their various lanes.
Lukaku had a disastrous second spell (15 goals in 44 appearances), and fell out with the manager and that is why he is back at Inter Milan.
In the interest of both parties, this umbilical cord tying them together must be cut this summer and be thrown away forever.
4. Hakim Ziyech
Ziyech arrived at Chelsea with a lot of expectations that have been part of Erik Ten Haag’s Ajax side that tormented Europe in the 2018/2019 season.
He has failed to replicate the form he showed at Amsterdam in the colours of Chelsea. In 97 appearances, he has managed 14 goals and 11 assists for the club.
The Moroccan must be shown the exit door.
5. Christian Pulisic
Pulisic also arrived at Chelsea with a lot of expectations. He was touted to be Eden Hazard’s heir but he has been consistently inconsistent for the club.
He has featured 136 times for Chelsea scoring 26 goals and registering 21 assists. Marvel’s Captain America must be sad that he shares the same nick with Pulisic.
His time is up at the club and he should be allowed to find a suitable suitor for himself.
6. Callum Huson-Odoi
He was handed his debut by Maurizio Sarri in the 2018/2019 season and just like many of his senior colleagues at the club, he is not aconsistent player.
He made just 28 appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring only 3 goals and that informed his move to Bayern Leverkusen to get more playing time.
He has done nothing to show that he deserves a second chance at Chelsea having featured 15 times and netting just once for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.
Chelsea should bin him in the summer.
7. Armando Broja
Having done well for Southampton in the 2021/2022 season, Chelsea held on to Broja thinking he was going to be Didier Drogba or Diego Costa.
In 18 appearances for Chelsea this season, the Albanian has only scored once.
Chelsea should let him leave in the summer.
